Euro 2020 fixture, Slovakia  vs. Spain will kick off at 20:00 (GMT+1) on Match Day 3 - Wednesday, the 23rd of June. Match venue: Estadio de La Cartuja, Seville, Spain.

Slovakia returns behind a 1-0 defeat to Sweden on Match Day 2. The first half saw no goals until after the break when the game came to life. Swedish forward, Alexander Isak saw his shot deflected wide inches away before putting one right above the cross-bar minutes.

Later on the skilful striker forced a heroic save out of Martin Dubravka who was in goal for Slovakia. But later, the hero turned villain after bringing a Swedish player down illegally inside the box. Forsberg (77’ P.) put the Swedes ahead from the penalty spot. The Slovakians tried but failed to find a goal until the game came to an end. The 1-0 defeat leaves with 3 points after 1W, 0D & 1L ahead of this Match Day 3 fixture in Group E. Slovakia have only one defeat in their last six matches across all competitions: DWDDWL.

Meanwhile, Spain picked up a 1-1 draw against Poland on Match Day 3. Spanish forward, Alvaro Morata had put the Red One in front midway through the first-half (25'), after appearing from nowhere to send the ball home from close range.  However, Robert Lewandowski would reply, after he scored Poland’s only goal with a fine header in the 54th minute beyond Unai Simon. After a few chances at either end with no goals, the game came to a close at 1-1. Spain has come under heavy fire in the last few days over their inability to win matches.

They remain with no victories at the end of Match Day 2: 0W, 2D & 0L. Sitting 3rd, they must win this tie to have any chance of qualifying for the next round. A 4—3—3 formation with Alvaro Morata in the thick of things as the centre-forward of choice is expected. Manchester City’s Ferran Torres could also make an appearance before the end of the game. Luis Enrique will be looking for a win as a response to his critics – most notably the Spanish media. Despite the in convincing performances at Euro 2020, Spain remains unbeaten in six games across all competitions: DWWDDD.

The last time both countries met, Spain defeated Slovakia, 2-0. Before that fixture, Slovakia picked up a 2-1 win over Spain. That fixture was played on the 9th of October 2014. An earlier fixture on the 16th of November, 2005 ended in a 1-1 draw.
