Euro 2020 Finals encounter, with Sweden taking on Slovakia on Friday the 18th of June, 2021, at Saint-Petersburg Stadium.

Sweden debuted in these Euro finals against Spain on Monday, in Seville, being the outsiders. They did a great job defensively, when needed they were a bit lucky too, they kept a clean sheet and earned a point (0-0). As for chances to score, they had only two in the entire game, but both were huge. Their current form reads; DWWWW. One point for them, sharing the second spot in the group table, hand-in-hand with Spain. A win over Slovakia would massively boost their chances of qualifying for the last 16. Coach Janne Andersson chose a 4-4-2 formation against Spain,

with Berg and Isak up front. The latter was the only player who created troubles to Spain’s defence; he missed a glorious chance to score in the first half, while in the second one he gave Berg a “just push the ball in” pass, which though his older teammate wasted big time.

Slovakia could not have hoped for a better debut in this tournament when they faced Poland on Monday. They opened the scoring in the 18th minute, got equalized less than 60 seconds into the second half, but crucially, Poland were left with 10 men in the 62nd minute and the Slovaks took perfect advantage of that, scoring a second goal in the 69th and protecting their 1-2 lead until the final whistle. Their current form reads; WDDWD. Being on three points, leading in the group, they are in a position that even a draw against Sweden would be a positive result.

Be reminded, five years ago, the first time the Euro finals had 24 teams competing, there were two teams in the group stage that finished on just three points (including Portugal) but still qualified for the last 16. If three were enough to some five years ago, Slovakia’s four (with a draw today, and even a defeat against Spain in their third game), should be enough. Coach Štefan Tarkovič chose a 4-2-3-1 formation against Poland the other day, with Duda up front. Slovakia’s first goal was an own-goal, as the ball found on Szczęsny and went in, but it was Mak who did most of the job. Škriniar scored the golden winner for his team.

Sweden have faced Slovakia six times in the past and are yet to lose to them; they have three wins and exactly as many draws. Goals in total, 11-2 for the Swedes. They last met in a friendly game three years ago, a 1-1 draw.

A 1-1 draw is predicted at full-time.
