Boxing: Joe Joyce vs Carlos Takam

Joe Joyce was 2.3 kilos heavier for his fight against Carlos Takam at the official weigh-in this Friday than he was in his fight against Daniel Dubois.

The 1.98 meter tall Joe Joyce stepped on the scales of the British Boxing Board of Control for the 12-round main event on Saturday night at Wembley Arena in London with 119.3 kilos.  The 2016 Olympic runner-up weighed just 150 pounds in his last fight eight months ago against Daniel Dubois.

Carlos Takam, who was just 1.87 meters tall, weighed 112.6 kilos.

London-born Joe Joyce (12-0-0, 11 knockout wins) has to defeat Frenchman Carlos Takam (39-5-1, 28 knockout wins) in a world championship match with the WBO, WBA and IBF  Champion Anthony Joshua (24-1-0, 22 knockout wins) wants to get closer.  The No. 1 in the heavyweight ranking of the WBO is currently the undefeated Ukrainian Oleksandr Usyk (18-0-0, 13 knockout victories), who on September 25 at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London against Anthony Joshua for his three World Cup  -Title starts.  Usyk has been a mandatory heavyweight challenger for the WBO since June 2019.

Joe Joyce is currently ranked second on the WBO, but he will move up to the top spot that Usyk will take if he beats Takam.

The 35-year-old Joe Joyce will step back into the ring for the first time since he won the most important victory of his career on November 28th last year with a knockout in the 10th round against the then favorite Daniel Dubois (16-1  -0, 15 knockout victories).  Joyce injured the left eye of the previously undefeated Dubois in this fight and then knocked him out in the 10th round.
