Watch Argentina vs Colombia Live Stream

Copa América semifinal, with Argentina taking on Colombia on Wednesday the 7th of July, 2021, at Estádio Nacional de Brasília.

As expected and predicted here, Argentina beat Ecuador in their quarterfinal, with the final 3-0 being a little… deceptive. The Argentinians did lead 1-0 at halftime, having opened the scoring in the 40th minute, but they did not really secure the victory before the 84th minute, when they went two goals up. Their third goal, the cherry on top, came deep into added time.

On the other hand, truth is, Argentina did an awesome job defensively, hardly allowing Ecuador to pose any threat. Their current form reads; WWWWD. Coach Lionel Scaloni played a 4-3-3 formation against Ecuador, with Lautaro Martínez, Nico González and Lionel Messi up front. Martínez was the one who practically secured the qualification for the semifinal with his 84th-minute goal, while Messi put the cherry on top in added time with an exquisite foul-kick. Rodrigo De Paul had opened the scoring in the first half. Mind you, Messi got credited with two assists in this game, before scoring himself.

Colombia beat Uruguay on penalties in their quarterfinal, after a goalless draw in 90 minutes (no extra-time in Copa América). That was their third clean sheet in this tournament, after their 1-0 victory over Ecuador on their debut and their goalless draw with Venezuela (also in the group stage). On the other hand, a source of concern for them is the fact that they have scored just three goals in five matches now, and one of those was from the penalty spot… Their current form reads; WLLDW. Coach Reinaldo Rueda played a 4-4-2 formation against Uruguay, with Luis Muriel and Daniel Zapata up front. Goalkeeper David Ospina was needed in the penalty shootout and he delivered.

Argentina and Colombia have met 38 times in the past and the Argentinians have a clearly favourable record of 19W, 10D and 9L. The gap between the two is much-much smaller (hardly existent) if you isolate the games played on neutral ground; 4W, 5D and 3L for Argentina. Last time they faced each other in Copa América was two years ago, once again in Brazil, a game that Colombia won 2-0 (in the group stage).

A 1-0 victory for Argentina is predicted at full-time.
Date: Wednesday, 7th of July, 2021.
