Euro 2020 Grand Final, with Italy taking on England on Sunday the 11th of July, 2021, at Wembley Stadium, in London.

Italy may have needed penalties against Spain in the semifinal, but no one can claim that they didn’t deserve their spot in the grand final, that they “stole” it from someone else; after winning all three group matches by a total score of 7-0, they beat Austria 2-1 in the round of 16 (in extra-time), Belgium 2-1 in the quarterfinal and, as previously mentioned, Spain on penalties in the semifinal, after a 1-1 draw. They opened the scoring in the 60th minute,

but got equalized in the 80th. Their current form reads; WWWWW. Coach Roberto Mancini played a 4-3-3 formation against Spain, with Immobile as number 9 and Insigne with Chiesa on the wings. The latter was the scorer of the only Italian goal in 120 minutes of game.

That penalty decision in extra-time that ended up making all the difference in England’s semifinal against Denmark was one of the most… contested ones in the tournament, the Danes (along with many neutrals) were left feeling they were treated… harshly by the referee (and the VAR), but… regardless, England are in the grand final, one win away from winning the European Championship for the first time ever(!). Before Harry Kane’s winner in extra-time, England had equalized 1-1 in the 39th minute thanks to an own-goal scored by a Danish defender. Their current form reads; WWWWD. Coach Gareth Southgate played a 4-2-3-1 formation against Denmark, with Kane up front. He actually saw Schmeichel deny him from the penalty spot, but was quick to grab the… rebound and send the ball in, in the 104th minute.

Italy and England have met 27 times in the past and the Italians have a slightly favourable record of 10W, 9D and 8L. Interestingly, the English have scored more, 33 goals, two more than Italy’s 31. On English soil, the hosts have 4W, 3D and 3L. Last time Italy and England faced each other in Euro finals was in 2012, in Poland; Italy won on penalties back then, after a goalless draw.

A 1-0 victory for Italy is predicted at full-time.
